What is the purpose of the black inlet pipe on an Eazypod?

The pipe in the inlet performs 2 functions –

1. It allows the water to remain at the correct height for cleaning when the pump is switched off.  Without this, the water would empty back into the pond, and there wouldn’t be enough water left in the filter to allow the media to move.
2. It acts as a shield when the Eazypod has a UV fitted, and prevents you from being able to see the bulb, and damaging your eyes.
