Frequently Asked Questions

eaLED is a new range of LED aquarium lights, from Evolution Aqua.

The range comes in three lengths, 535mm 10watt, 835mm 16 watt, and 1135mm 20 watt output. These would typically be used to light two foot (600mm,) three foot, (900mm,) and four foot (1200mm,) aquariums, but they can be used on other sizes too. All sizes are available in four colour spectrums: Natural Sun – a 7000K lamp which mimics sunshine, Colour Plus – a colour enhancing light, also known as RGB (red, green, blue,) Cool White – a 12000K white light, and Sea Blue – a deep blue lamp populated with 100% blue diodes.

The eaFreshwater range of aquariums come pre-fitted with 2 x Natural Sun, but you could add a Colour Plus to enhance reds and blue colouration in fish, or a Cool White to make the light spectrum look cleaner, and whiter. You could also use a single Cool White on its own as the sole illumination for most tanks. If you wanted a deep lake spectrum, or a marine spectrum, use Cool White and Sea Blue in combination. We have one Cool White and one Colour Plus over our Discus tank and that makes for a colourful tank, bringing out the reds and blues in the Discus, but any combination is possible.

We think their light output is about equal to a similar length T8 diameter fluorescent lamp, but they use half the power. Two lamps would be fine to grow most plants in tanks up to 45cm deep, but four may be necessary in deep tanks, and for demanding plant species. The tall eaFreshwater aquarium range has the ability to add another two lamps for those situations. Evolution Aqua also distribute high powered Kessil Lighting, capable of penetrating tanks up to 90cm deep, and with units powered by up to 185 watts. The two ranges are very different, with eaLED having standard output, and Kessil having high output.

Every eaLED has an inline on/off switch, and can be plugged into a standard light timer (not supplied,) but they aren’t dimmable, and don’t have advanced control features. Again, you would want the Kessil range for that.

eaLED are 1”, or T8 in diameter, so they simply clip into any standard T8 aquarium lighting clip. They don’t need to fit into existing two pin lamp holders and come with their own transformer and UK plug. If you have a box hood you can screw clips into the underneath of the hood, or simply sit them on cover glasses. Evolution Aqua provide two clip options (not supplied.)

Every Evolution Aqua stockist will either have them in stock, or can order them in. Remember there are three sizes, and four spectrums, so 12 lights in all to choose from. Ask your dealer for eaLED.

All the 535mm, 10 watt lamps are £39.99. All 835mm, 16 watt lamps are £49.99, and all 1135mm, 20 watt lamps are £59.99.

The warranty on eaLED lighting is 1 year from the date of purchase.
